“We had tried several things previously such as speech therapy and two other forms of tutoring. This has been the biggest growth we have seen in the past 3 years! The staff is amazing and have been very helpful in many other ways. …We would definitely recommend Exl Learning for those that want to see growth for their child as they also test frequently to keep up on child’s growth!”

“eXL learning is such a wonderful asset to our community! Brenda and Adriana are wonderful! They are so personable, responsive and invested in providing top notch academic support to children. Both my daughter and son have gone to eXL for private reading tutoring and both reaped tremendous benefits. My daughter is now in fourth grade and is an avid reader! She is in a book club outside of school, in the highest reading group at school and is even participating in Battle of the Books. This all would have been unthinkable a few years ago. My son currently meets with his tutor once a week (we drive 20 minutes each way to get him there – totally worth it) and he has made huge strides in reading and writing. He loves it! He looks forward to it every week and is so disappointed if we are out of town or have to miss a session. Tutors totally zero in on their interests and tailor each session to them ensuring they are totally engaged and interested. Brenda and Adriana are constantly seeking out the ways to better serve the community. They offer awesome camps on days when school is not in session and during school breaks and are constantly looking for new opportunities to meet the needs of children and their parents. I just cannot say enough about eXL and would recommend it to anyone!”

What is Dyslexia?
One in five students, or 15-20% of the population, has a language based learning disability. Dyslexia is the most common of the language based learning disabilities.
Do you know what Walt Disney, John Lennon, Pablo Picasso, Agatha Christie, and Muhammad Ali have in common? That’s right! They are all famous and dyslexic!
Quick Facts about Dyslexia:
-Defined as extreme difficulty reading caused by a hereditary, brain based, phonologic disability
-Symptoms include poor reading, spelling, fluency as well as difficulty with short term memory and auditory discrimination
-Dyslexics struggle to quickly and accurately identify and manipulate the basic sounds of language (phonemes)
-It is not a disease, a gift, or something that will be grown out of
-Often associated with dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and ADHD
-Very treatable through effective reading programs, assistive technology and classroom accommodations
Although dyslexia is a lifelong issue, individuals with dyslexia respond successfully to timely and appropriate intervention or tutoring. This is why it is crucial to act promptly. Waiting with a false hope that it will disappear as the child gets older will only allow for the child to get further and further behind in his or her academics.
The Orton Gillingham Approach to Reading and Writing Instruction
We offer one-on-one tutoring using the OG approach. The latest reading research supports the Orton-Gillingham method as the “best practice” when teaching reading to students with dyslexia.
Orton-Gillingham (OG) is the research-based approach recommended by the International Dyslexia Association. OG is a multisensory structured language program. It has a sequential format moving from concrete to abstract and from simple to complex. There is sufficient repetition to achieve automation and considerable scaffolding techniques to support students at any level.
The OG approach also helps students make spelling easy for students as it focuses on why words are spelled the way they are. The English language contains 26 letters. When combined, they create 44 speech sounds and there are more than 250 ways to spell those sounds! OG condenses the spelling of these sounds into phonograms and teaches students to apply rules and generalizations that help make spelling a much easier task.
The recommended frequency is at least two hours per week of tutoring per student. To learn more about our dyslexia tutoring services, please contact us.
Pricing: 1:1 dyslexia tutoring is $85 per hour.
